Safe Light

She wanted to know my name
but I was out of breath, this time
We met in unusual places I stayed close to the wall
keeping me safe in pretzel shapes
I concluded the sky hung it's clouds for me to seize
With dreams and verdicts that shaped the stars to hang our cages from
In Isolated drums are empty chambers wailing in the sounds of desert raindrops and peace
that feels the air of the accordion in soft places where the wind blows steady on a nightly basis
There is no hiding from heartache in the chest of a mother frail from punishment
The bags of years beneath her eyes child size in the freedom to let go of little things that hold themselves together for being true
